Solutions for 3 common problems educators face

Schools everywhere have faced the same common challenges for many years. In a post-pandemic world, we have learned just how much of a problem we can have without solutions in place. There is a renewed focus to support the success of our teachers and students.

Three common issues that are educators are facing today are:
1. Learning loss
2. School and home partnerships
3. Lack of resources

Issue #1

The Problem: Learning Loss

“The summer slide,” “the pandemic plunge.” It’s no surprise that there is a decline in skill retention and mastery without consistent practice. Depending on out-of-school experiences, students return to classrooms with varying levels of skills, knowledge, and development. This includes mental and physical health, academic knowledge, and social-emotional skills. The loss or lack of foundational skills can affect a child’s future reading and math ability. Teachers face the challenge of adapting to increased individual student needs. Time to plan and prepare is reduced when teaching skills they needed before this school year and preparing them for the next.

The Solution: The Gift of Time

MVP Kids’ social and emotional learning program, Instill®, is built on CASEL’s Five Core Competencies and enhances academic learning by adding robust social, emotional, and character development content. Learning these essential skills are a key predictor for long-term success both in and out of school. Instill’s lessons are easy-to-use and require little to no training or preparation. Research-proven concepts are taught through literacy, music, creative expression, movement, and puppet play. Teachers have the freedom to adapt, repeat, and choose the best way to implement activities. This flexibility empowers teachers to meet the diverse needs of students and busy, ever-changing classroom environments.

Issue #2

The Problem: School and Home Partnerships

It has often been a challenge to meaningfully engage families in strong school and classroom partnerships. The reasons are as diverse as the families themselves: work and obligations, language and communication, health and finances, culture and values, personalities and opinions. In a world of divisive topics, it can be a challenge to find quality, skill-focused content respectful of diverse values.

The Solution: Tools to Build Strong Relationships

MVP Kids celebrates diversity by providing a world where children can see themselves and also learn from others who are different. Also available in Spanish, Instill is intentionally designed with universal, research-proven content and tools that support a child’s Journey to Character. Included materials inform, invite, and involve families to help build strong school and home partnerships every step of the way. Families can also purchase an Instill SEL at Home Toolkit to reinforce learning and decrease learning loss.

Issue #3

The Problem: Lack of Resources

Common workplace challenges that educators face: tight budgets, lack of materials, required professional development, assessments, virtual and classroom instruction, health and safety concerns, and attending to student (and personal) trauma and declining mental health. These issues, exacerbated by a worldwide health crisis and if left unchecked, can lead to workplace stress and burnout. We are already seeing problems with staffing and fewer enrollments in teaching degree programs.

The Solution: Reduce Stress

Both English and Spanish Instill® versions, include everything needed to begin teaching on day one! No lengthy or costly training is required and the easy-to-use lessons can be taught by anyone. Budget friendly activities make use of materials already available in classrooms and there are no special products required to purchase or refresh for additional school years. The research-proven tools and strategies help children build skills to manage behavior and emotions, make healthy and positive choices, and reduce stress. These same tools and strategies (along with a reduction in challenging behaviors) are effective at reducing stress and improving mental health for adults, too!

As educators, we struggled to find high-quality and engaging programs and resources that could be implemented easily and consistently. Using our knowledge, direct classroom experience, and feedback from teachers across the globe, we thoughtfully designed Instill® to overcome common challenges of effective implementation. Instill® provides tools and strategies to empower talented teachers and passionate families to support children’s Journey to Character™.
