Halloween: A Time to Celebrate Community

Our communities have been through a lot this year. During this Halloween season, we have an opportunity to celebrate those who bring comfort and service to those in need through trying times. We celebrate our community heroes, medical workers, firefighters, police officers, and others who are working hard to keep us safe. We celebrate our family, friends, and loved ones. We celebrate the wonderful gift of community that we have everyday.

Holidays like Halloween can be great opportunities to create positive memories with your young ones. Traditions observed year after year, develop unity and a sense of belonging. Whether it’s a newly introduced tradition or one your family has passed on through generations, these rituals give meaning to our celebrations and connect us with those we love.

Meeting neighbors, sharing goodies, playing heroes for one night—I'm thankful for our community and my heroes in real life!

So this year for Halloween, why not start a new tradition of celebrating your community? Our celebrations might look different, but little ones are sure to have fun dressing up as always! Instead of focusing on ghosts and goblins or witches and zombies—let’s focus on heroes who are courageous and brave, who are helpful and kind, who serve others and save the day. Encourage our frontline workers by dressing up as medical providers, first responders, law enforcement, delivery drivers, and others who have supported our families through these scary times!

In Sophia Day’s book, Celebrate! A Heroic Halloween, our MVP Kids put on their bravest costumes and make their holiday happy, healthy, safe, and fun! From celebrating real-life community heroes, to being safe and healthy, to sharing and spreading generosity, your child will learn alongside our MVP Kids to be thankful for their neighbors, friends, and community. The helpful teaching tips in the back of the book provide ways for parents to create meaningful traditions that inform minds, move hearts, and direct little hands. Make a new tradition, and join our MVP Kids community as we celebrate this Halloween!
