5 keys to a partnership’s long-term success

MVP Kids has been blessed with some amazing partnerships, leading to greater success for all of us. Our partners help with the greatest need we have in completing our mission: gaining visibility and access to the families for which we create our products! We want to share with you some of the things we’ve learned about what makes partnerships work. Through key partnerships with Chick-fil-A, Costco, Becker’s School Supplies, Miami-Dade school district, and Head Start preschools, we’ve learned that great partnerships…

1. Share and promote the same values.

“Better at together” could be the slogan for a number of successful partnerships. In fact, it is one of the core values at Chick-fil-A, but it is also one of the keys to success for MVP Kids. In an often-divisive culture, MVP Kids focuses on the most widely accepted values and ideas that bring togetherness to provide every family with tools to help kids grow up well. In 2022, we partnered with Chick-fil-A to bring five mini board books and five story and activity books to their kids’ meals. This partnership not only carried MVP Kids into millions of homes nationwide, but also brought our shared values-community, kindness, diversity-into focus. As chick-fil-A says, “When we’re better at together, we’re better together.” One of their purposes is “to have a positive impact on everyone who comes into contact with Chick-fil-A.” We have loved hearing stories of the positive impacts our books have made in their kids’ meals! 2. Benefit everyone.

Everyone’s a winner when it comes to MVP Kids’ partnership with Costco! Costco’s mission is “To continually provide [their] members with quality goods and services at the lowest possible prices.” In Spring 2023, ##### of our books will flood Costco warehouses. We have collaborated to bundle multiple titles across several of our series into exciting volumes that display the values, diversity, and world of MVP Kids to new consumers. We are honored that partnership with Costco affirms the quality of our products. This collaboration serves Costco’s mission as well as ours, “to equip parents, teachers, and caregivers to engage with kids through inspiring entertainment.” And ultimately, it’s the customer, the parents, teachers, and caregivers who will benefit most by Costco making our products visible. More than half of Costco’s members have children in the home.

3. Understand the client.

One of our earliest and longest partnerships is with Becker’s School Supplies, whose mission is “to understand, anticipate, and be responsive to the needs of schools, educators, and young students . . .” Our partnership has created shared success for us because we both understand schools, educators, and young people. Our team is composed of parents, grandparents, coaches, mentors, classroom educators, administrators, homeschooling parents, all passionate about understanding children and how they learn best. With Becker’s 90+ years of experience in serving the same client, our partnership has allowed our innovative products to reach into homes and classrooms worldwide.

4. Collaborate for success.

When the Miami-Dade school district in Florida contacted MVP Kids about our Instill SEL program, one of their first questions was, “Can we get it in Spanish?.” “Certainly,” we replied. And we got to work on a Spanish translation! At their request, Instill SEL became a fully bilingual program with curriculum, story books, and other resources available in English and Spanish, with some dual-language resources. Throughout the process, Miami-Dade was open to sharing their preferences and suggestions on exactly what they needed the Spanish Instill SEL to accomplish. As a result, our final product is not only an expertly-translated curriculum, but one that feels natural as if it had been first written in Spanish for a Spanish-speaking community, and uniquely fits the needs of a district with 40% of their early-childhood classrooms in Spanish. Miami-Dade’s request and collaboration have accelerated the success of our Instill SEL program, now active in over 950 classrooms!

5. Build a strong future.

MVP Kids is all about, well, kids! We recognize that positive social experiences and emotional regulation skills taught in early childhood have a significant impact on a person’s success and happiness throughout life. Head Start preschools serve families in poverty by providing a learning-rich environment for preschoolers and connecting families to helpful resources. As one of our curriculum partners, Head Start is helping whole families break cycles of trauma and laying foundational skills that will help them lead responsible, meaningful lives. As Frederick Douglas said, “It is easier to build strong children than it is to repair broken men.” Head Start preschools apply our resources where they can have a deep impact on rising leaders.
